How to Make a Messy Bun
The messy bun is a classic hairstyle that looks effortless and chic. However, it can be a little tricky to style at first. That’s why we have gathered a few tutorials that will help you learn how to make your own messy bun!
The First Step to a Messy Bun
Gather all your hair at the top of your head and tie it into a ponytail. Then, loosely twist the ponytail into a bun and secure it with bobby pins.
Depending on your preference, you can leave some of your strands out to frame your face or wrap the ends around the base of your bun. This will add more texture to your look and give it a bit of extra volume.
You can also use a texturizing spray to enhance your voluminousness, like Bed Head by TIGI Superstar Queen For A Day Thickening Spray, or you can opt for a dry shampoo. The trick is to play with your bun and pull out pieces if they look too clumped or if you want more texture.
Once your bun is done, spritz with a texture spray like TRESemme Compressed Micro Mist Hairspray Texture Hold Level 1 to keep it in place. If you’re feeling a little adventurous, you can even add some glitter for an instant upgrade!
The Second Step to a Messy Bun
After you’ve secured your ponytail, take the stray strands that weren’t able to be incorporated into your bun and twist them around the base of your bun. Or, you can tuck them under the strands that are still hanging out to create a haphazardly tucked messy bun.
This technique is best for longer hair, but it can be used on medium lengths as well. Just be sure to brush out your hair before you put it in a ponytail, so that you don’t have any tangles.
The Third Step to a Messy Bun
After your hair has been styled into a bun, tuck any stray pieces under the other strands and secure with bobby pins. You can also tuck in a few of your strands into the sides to create a more textured look, but be sure to play with your bun and pull out a few stray strands to add more volume.
Lastly, spray with a texture spray or dry shampoo to keep the look in place throughout the day. This style can be worn for many different occasions, so it’s a great way to change up your look without needing any styling tools at all!
This easy-to-achieve look is perfect for those days when you’re just running errands or when you need to look casual yet stylish. It only takes a few minutes to put together and looks totally chic!
